                       J. MICHAEL HESTON


 

J. Michael Heston is a native of Greenville, Illinois.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Louis Christian College, having majored in New Testament, and his Master of Arts degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary, having majored in Theology and Philosophy.  He has done additional work in the fields of Sociology and Social Work at Southeast Missouri State University.  In continuing education, he has studied under such notables as Dr. Walter Brueggmann and Dr. James H. Cone.

Pastor Heston has held ministries in both rural and metropolitan settings in Illinois and Missouri respectfully.  He did inner-city work in both St. Louis and Cape Girardeau, Missouri and briefly served as a Juvenile Officer for the 32nd judicial circuit of Southeast Missouri.  He also founded a campus ministry at Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Missouri
and directed it for six years.  Later, he served two years as campus minister at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Illinois.  He has been pastor of First Christian Church, West Plains, Missouri since November of 1998.

Memberships include: The International Jacques Ellul Society, Chi Lambda Academic Fraternity, and the River City Yacht Club.  In 1985, he was presented the "Man of the Year" award by the DST service sorority of Southeast Missouri State University and two years later was made an Honorary Captain in Girardot's Navy by the City of Cape Girardeau.  Over the years, he has conducted seminars and published articles in various journals and papers.  In 1990, he presented the first of the Boatman Lectures at St. Louis Christian College, a series entitled, "The Christian in a Multicultural World".  From 1996-1998, he served as an instructor in the AIM (Adults-In Ministry) program at St. Louis Christian College.  His hobbies include reading, traveling, visiting with old and new friends, and watching old classic movies.
